An annex to the Agreement on the Establishment of the Mining Documentation Centre was signed
28 May 2024On Tuesday, May 28, the Jan Szczerbiński Chamber of Traditions of the State Mining Authority hosted the ceremonial signing of an annex to the Agreement concerning the establishment of a Mining Documentation Centre in Zabrze, concluded on June 25, 2018, by Krzysztof Król - Acting President of the SMA, and Bartłomiej Szewczyk - director of the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze.
The event was attended by representatives of the State Mining Authority, the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, the director of the District Mining Office in Rybnik and the deputy director of the District Mining Office in Katowice, as well as the office director of the Archives of Measurement and Geological Documentation.
The Agreement on the establishment of the Mining Documentation Centre was expanded to include item 4 with the following wording:
“4. In order to augment the resources of the Mining Documentation Centre, The Coal Mining Museum may enter into agreements with mining supervisory authorities for the transfer of non-archival documentation whose storage period has expired, subject to the following:
- only documentation for which a permit for absence has been issued by the director of the relevant state archive will be transferred,
- The Coal Mining Museum will assume full responsibility for continuing to share the documentation,
- a common template of the "Inventory of transfer receipt will be prepared, which will be attached to the contract, including all elements identifying the transferred documentation,
- the technical processing and preservation of the transferred non-archival documentation will be the responsibility of the Coal Mining Museum,
- transfer of non-archival documentation will be possible if it does not disrupt the current work of the office serving the mining authority,
- The President of the State Mining Authority will be notified of the conclusion of the agreement and of any activities undertaken in connection with its execution,
- non-archival documentation transferred under the agreement, not useful for the Coal Mining Museum, will be destroyed at the expense of the Coal Mining Museum, in such a way that it cannot be reconstructed."
The establishment of the Mining Documentation Centre was the result of cooperation between the Coal Mining Museum and the State Mining Authority. The centre is located on the grounds of the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, at ul. Zamoyskiego 2 - in a renovated water tower building.
The main task of the ODG is to collect, store and provide access to documentation, partly obtained from decommissioned mining facilities.
The cooperation between the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze and the State Mining Authority in Katowice is carried out through means including the exchange of information on the collected collections, access to archives, the possibility of substantive consultation, as well as making the collections digitally available.
