Historical mining maps from SMA on display in the "Sztygarka” museum
6 December 2024The "Sztygarka” City Museum in Dąbrowa Górnicza and the State Mining Authority have organised an unusual exhibition. From 3 December 2024 until 30 January 2025, it features historical maps of mine workings and geological cross-sections of mining plants that once operated in the Dąbrowa Górnicza. The SMA Archive of Mine Survey and Geological Documentation lent the cartographic documents to the museum. In addition, the "Sztygarka" prepared an exhibition of old surveying equipment and measurement documentation.
The old mining maps made available to visitors are valuable archival materials. They date from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Archive of Mine Survey and Geological Documentation of the SMA received them from decommissioned mining plants. The distinguishing features of the maps are extraordinary accuracy, calligraphic neatness of writing and colourful technical drawing. Despite their age, they are well preserved and are a valuable part of the mining heritage in Zagłębie and the surrounding area.
