In 2023, the mining helpline rang 54 times
9 January 2024The State Mining Authority helpline was launched in 2011. It is available 24h a day, seven days a week. Calls are answered by an on-duty dispatcher who receives notifications about various irregularities and safety hazards in mining plants. Such notifications can be also made by e-mail at and by traditional mail. All notifications are recorded, carefully analyzed and verified by mining supervision inspectors.
A total of 54 notifications concerning irregularities in the operation of mining plants were received in 2023. Mining supervision staff confirmed the legitimacy of 14 of them, and 6 other notifications are still being processed.
In 2022, there were 70 calls for intervention (27 of them confirmed), in 2021 - 87 (26 of them confirmed), in 2020 - 97 (35 of them confirmed), and in 2019 - 141 (44 of them confirmed).
In 2023, the reported and confirmed irregularities in the operation of mining plants concerned:
- acceptable temperature exceeded (15 irregularities, 2 confirmed),
- breach of regulations (9 irregularities, 2 confirmed),
- breach of work time regulations (4 irregularities, 3 confirmed),
- methane threat, including methane emission sensors being out of order (4 irregularities, 0 confirmed),
- mobbing (3 irregularities, 0 confirmed),
- admitting persons to work without the required qualifications, courses and trainings (3 irregularities, 1 confirmed).
The remaining notifications concerned, among others, malfunctioning machinery and equipment and their incorrect operation, use of dangerous work methods, and abuse of psychotropic substances.
