Meeting devoted to amendments to the Geological and Mining Law
14 December 2023On Wednesday, December 13, the management of the District Mining Office in Wrocław held a meeting with representatives of the business sector, the management and supervisors of open-pit mining plants, and the representatives of companies performing blasting works. The meeting was devoted to the amendment to the Geological and Mining Law, the promotion of the culture of safety among the employees of mining plants, and the promotion of good practices and safe behaviors in mines. The attendees discussed the circumstances and causes of accidents and near misses reported in 2023 in the operations of open-pit mines. They talked about the design of transport route widths, the principles of designating safety belts from the edges of scarps, and good practices in securing or marking upper scarp edges.
One of the major issues discussed at the meeting were amendments to the Geological and Mining Law (the Act of 16 November 2023 amending the Geological and Mining Law and certain other acts), plus several other issues, such as:
- award of concessions for the extraction of minerals from deposits,
- new responsibilities and competencies of mining supervision authorities,
- qualifications of mine management and supervisors,
- trainings of personnel responsible for the operations of mining plants.
Some other subjects included the rules and procedure for obtaining professional qualifications in vocational education.
