Safety standards for transport, internal combustion engines and crane equipment in the mining industry
12 December 2024The videoconference took place at the State Mining Authority on 11 December 2024. The main topics of the meeting were the current state of safety in mining, the causes and circumstances of accidents occurring in 2023-2024 in transport, the requirements for internal combustion engines for non-road mobile machinery in mining operations and the rules for the inspection of crane equipment in underground workings.
It was attended by representatives of the SMA Department of Energy, Mechanics and Basic Infrastructure, as well as the management and supervision of underground mining plants, who were responsible for the movement of machinery, transport systems, and crane equipment. Special attention was paid to the issues of using internal combustion engines for the propulsion of mobile machinery that meet the conditions set out in Regulation (EU) 2016/1628 of the European Parliament and of the Council on requirements for emission limits for gaseous and particulate pollutants and type approval for internal combustion engines intended for non-road mobile machinery. The hazards accompanying the operation of crane equipment in underground workings, mainly caused by the uncontrolled release of kinetic or potential energy during the lifting and movement of loads, were also discussed.
