Visit of the President of the Czech Mining Authority
27 April 2007Professor Roman Makarius – the President of the Czech Mining Authority on 26 April 2007 paid a visit to the State Mining Authority at the invitation of the President Piotr Buchwald.
During the visit President Makarius received from SMA’s President the honorary badge "Distinguished Service for Polish Mining", which he has been awarded with by the minister competent for the economy.
For years Roman Makarius has launched numerous initiatives aimed at the development of mining in Europe. He has considerably contributed to strengthening the cooperation between Polish and Czech mining supervision authorities. Moreover, he actively participated in the process of creation of European norms regarding this branch of industry as well as he took part in the work on European directives. As the Vice President of the Czech Mining Authority Roman Makarius was the co-organiser of the first Meeting of Heads of State Mining Authorities in 1995 in Czech Republic. This Meeting has turned into an annual conference, which gathers important personalities responsible for supervision over health and safety in mining in EU Member States and candidate counties.
The President of the Czech Mining Authority made a considerable contribution in the work of Bilateral International Commission for Cooperation on Extraction of Hard Coal Deposits in the area of the Polish-Czechoslovakian border.
Currently President Makarius supervises the work of Czech team appointed to negotiate the draft contract between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Czech Republic on conducting of geological works in the area of the Polish-Czech border.
