Exams have returned to mining offices
On July 6, 2024, the regulation on qualifications in the field of mining and mine rescue was entered into force. It restores the possibility of conducting examinations in mining offices, which will enable the recruitment of qualified staff to work in the mining industry.
Changes in the organisational structure of the State Mining Authority
Since July 1, 2024, the State Mining Authority has had a new statute. The order was signed by the Minister of Industry, Marzena Czarnecka. It repealed the document the Minister of State Assets issued on October 7, 2022. With the entry into force of the new statute, the organisational structure of the institution changed.
The founders have a favourable opinion about the Waclaw Cybulski Safe Mining Foundation
On June 27, 2024, the annual meeting of the founders of the Wacław Cybulski Safe Mining Foundation was held in Czeladź attended by the President of the State Mining Authority, Piotr Litwa. It was an opportunity to exchange opinions between the foundation's management board and companies and institutions supporting its activities.
ATEX AdCo group meeting
On June 25 and 26, 2024, the 37th meeting of ATEX AdCo - the European working group for administrative cooperation in the field of Directive 2014/34/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of February 26 2014 on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres - was held by teleconference.
Piotr Litwa appointed to the position of President of the State Mining Authority
On June 3, 2024, pursuant to Art. 165 section 2 of the Act of June 9, 2011 - Geological and Mining Law (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 633, as amended), the Prime Minister appointed Mr. Piotr Litwa residing in Katowice, from June 5, 2024, for the position of President of the State Mining Authority which based in Katowice.
Conference entitled "Modern Solutions in Occupational Health and Safety"
The first edition of the scientific and technical conference entitled "Modern Solutions in Occupational Safety and Health" was held on Tuesday, May 28. The event was organized by the Wroclaw University of Technology, Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology.
An annex to the Agreement on the Establishment of the Mining Documentation Centre was signed
On Tuesday, May 28, the Jan Szczerbiński Chamber of Traditions of the State Mining Authority hosted the ceremonial signing of an annex to the Agreement concerning the establishment of a Mining Documentation Centre in Zabrze, concluded on June 25, 2018, by Krzysztof Król - Acting President of the SMA, and Bartłomiej Szewczyk - director of the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze.
An opportunity for Polish-Indian cooperation in the mining sector
On Thursday, May 23, an online meeting was held with Konrad Duda, a representative of the Polish Embassy in New Delhi, on establishing Polish-Indian cooperation in the field of coal mining. Following up on an invitation from the Ministry of Industry (Department of European Funds and Foreign Affairs), which was the promoter of the event, the teleconference was also attended by representatives of the State Mining Authority.
Proper protection of the respiratory system from inhalation hazards occurring in the work environment
As part of preventive measures aimed at reducing the impact of dust harmful to health in the Polish mining industry, improving working conditions and reducing the number of occupational diseases, the State Mining Authority has organized a training course on: Proper protection of the respiratory system from inhalation hazards occurring in the work environment.
Report on safety in mining
An important compendium of knowledge on safety in mining is now available on the State Mining Authority's website under the "Health and Safety in Mining" tab. The report entitled “Assessment of occupational safety, mine rescue and general safety in connection with mining and geological activities in 2023” is addressed to all organs and entities involved in the broadly understood mining sector.
